Understanding Memory Process :-02-03-Rachel-Wynn-Errorless-Learning-700x290

The Information Processing Model suggest that memory is complex and consist of various processes and stages.

3 types of Memory :

  1. Sensory memory
  2. Short-Term Memory
  3. Long-Term Memory

 SENSORY MEMORY (SM)

  • Memory pertaining to the storage of temporary information carried by senses.
  • Is temporary.
  • If paying attention, the information will be processed inside the Short-term Memory (STM).
  • Otherwise, it will disappear immediately.

SHORT-TERM MEMORY (STM)

  • This process allows information to be stored within 30 seconds up to 24 hours.
  • This happens because the limitation of storing information is limited. Some information will enter the long-term memory system if it is given concentration and is repeated many times.
  • The information that is still stored in short-term memory will disappear.

LONG-TERM MEMORY (LTM)

  • Memory of an information over a long time.
  • In fact, this memory remains until the end of a person’s life, but depending on the person’s ability to recall the information from the memory store.

Addition of memory process :

  1. Encoding
  2. Storage
  3. Retrieval

Memory Strategies

MNEMONICS

  • The way to get used to what we like and what we have in our environment.
  • Memory tricks and make it funny.
  • Eg : acronyms and rhythms

ELABORATION STRATEGIES

Survey-Question-Read-Recite-Review (SQ3R)

  • Study hard and smart.
  • Review the note and remember the important point.
  • Try to remember the question pattern and do it again. Keep on trying until you get the answer.
  • Notes that is short but clear, it will be stored in a long-term memory.
